What’s the job like?
The WORD Instructors are the best! These are the folks that instruct our after school programmes and camps. As an instructor, you will be paid for teaching kids how to be good riders and good people. MTB skills, trail building, bike maintenance, teamwork, and the occasional face painting are all part of the job.

Wellington info night : TBC 5:30-6:30pm, My Ride 181 Vivian St, Te Aro
Dates of work:
After School: October-December & February-April
(1-2 days/week, 4.15-6.45pm in Wellington and or 3.45-6.15pm in Wānaka).
School holidays: January, April, July, and October
(8.30 am-3 pm and overnighters)
Locations:
Wellington: Porirua, Makara Peak, Mt Victoria, plus regional travel away for some camp instructors.

To be a WORD MTB Instructor, you don’t need to be a pro rider, but you do need to be stoked about helping kids enjoy riding just as much as you do.
Prerequisites:
-Experience working with kids (coaching/teaching)
-MTB Coaching/Instructing certification (a bonus!)
-Current outdoor first aid certification*
-At least 2 years MTB experience (Intermediate/Adv. MTB skills)
-Passion for riding and instructing
-17 years and older
-Attend the two-day WORD Instructor Training Camp

Instructor Training
We’ll teach you what and how to be the best MTB Instructor in the land! Accepted applicants will be required (really it’s an honour) to join the WORD Instructor Training Weekend based in Wellington in October.
The WORD Instructor Pathway:
Recruitment- application, interview, referees check, police check, first aid certificate, induction of WORD policies and procedures.
Attend Training Camp - A weekend of fun! We teach you all the things you need to know to start your instructing journey! UNPAID (but so many snacks!)
Buddy Teach- Join an experienced Instructor with a group of kiddos for half a term (October- November). Koha
Instruct own small group by end of Term 4 and all of Term 1 (February- April) PAID- Instructor rate
